The colorful Captain John “Mad Jack” Percival was a legend in his time. Known as a seaman of uncommon ability and fearlessness, he led such an extraordinary life that he drew the attention of the famous novelists Hawthorne, Melville, and Michener. The fact that his first and last ships–the last being USS Constitution–are national shrines has only enhanced his reputation.

Gregory Williams was a District Court judge for 15 years until he retired in 2015. He has served on the boards of several Cape Cod organizations, including Tales of Cape Cod and the 1717 Meetinghouse Foundation, and is the immediate past-president of the Board of Trustees of Sturgis Library. He has offered talks around the Cape and southeastern Massachusetts on various subjects, including historical Massachusetts crimes. His Facebook events page, Gregory Williams Speaks, is updated frequently with information about his talks and, more recently, pieces commemorating historical events. . . the weirder the better.
